ICPC Programming Competition is the oldest and most prestigious programming competition in the world and Computer Science Faculty of Kateb University is the only institutions in Afghanistan that has license to hold this competition at the regional level. This year, for the third consecutive round, it was successfully managed and implemented. This year, 49 teams from universities of Kabul and Nangarhar and 9 teams from Iran and India participated in the competition. A top team will be sent to Russia to participate in the World Championship.
On the first day, the opening ceremony began with a speech by the president of university, Professor Ali Ahmad Yousufi, and Dean of Computer Science faculty, Professor Morteza Nikzad. Both speakers stressed the need to expand students’ practical skills along with their scientific skills, and called such competitions an important step in this direction. Professor Yousufi also stressed the commitment of Kateb University to pay for the first team’s trip to the World Championship if a team from Kateb University wins, and expressed hope that other universities would do so. Following the ceremony, Dr. Syed Mohammad Ahmadi spoke on behalf of the judges and while stating the rules of the competition, considered programming as an amazing experience of being a creator at the same time in which success depend on enjoying this experience. Finally, after having lunch, the teams presented practiced to prepare for the competition.
On Friday, December 29, the competition officially started at 8 am and lasted for 5 hours, and the participants solved the problems designed by the judges, which created an exciting and close competition. After the meal, the closing ceremony was attended by Deputy of Finance and Administration of Kateb University; Professor Mohammad Zia Shefaee, Director of Research, Innovation and Science of Ministry of Communications and Information Technology; Dr. Jawed Baktash, judges and professors and students. The top teams were praised.
Professor Mohammad Zia Shefaee emphasized the commitment of Kateb University in promoting the scientific and cultural development of the society and Dr. Jawed Baktash also thanked Kateb Universitt and the organizers of these competitions and invited the students to take the most advantages of such opportunites. Then, on behalf of the judges, Professor Assadullah Mohammadi, by enumerating the most impeortant points that were witnessed in the performance of the students, confirmes the fair holding of the competitions and therefore considered the relevant officials worthy of appreciation.
In this year’s competitions, the participating teams from Kateb University with thw maximum attendance and solving an average of 3 questions from the set of questions, obtained the highest average score among other universities, and we congratulate these and their coaches on this success.
At the end, Kateb University expresses its gratitude and appreciation to the competition organizer, the students who volunteered for the days to prepare the completion hall, and the professors and students from different universities who participated in the competition.
