Kateb University, one of the most prestigious universities in Afghanistan, has been successfully entered the Times Higher Education World University Rankings in 2021.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings is one of the most renowned global ranking systems for higher education institutions particularly universities, which was developed by the International Higher Education Institute (THE) based on impactful activities of national and international universities across four core objectives of Teaching, Research, Knowledge Transfer and International Outlook.

Kateb University, as a prestigious research-focused institution with the highest quality education and research in the country, in its first attempt successfully entered THE global rankings and is now among the top universities all across the world. To this end, Kateb University, having highly qualified faculty members, research fellows and staff, partnering with national and international universities, adopting modern technology and providing a suitable research environment, has taken the initiative to globally rank its institutional capacity and performance and is now one of the six universities in Afghanistan that has entered THE global rankings.

The Times Higher Education (THE) World University Ranking assesses and measures 13 important factors for selecting the world’s top universities that have been endorsed by students, professors, universities, and governments. These 13 factors, known as Performance Indicators, are divided into five groups as follows:

1. Teaching (learning environment)

2. Research (research volume, achievements, and impact factor)

3. Citation (research impact)

4. Industrial revenue (innovation)

5. International aspect (human capital, students, and research)

Kateb University participated in this global ranking system to ranks itself against four goals of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) (first goal: No Poverty, third goal: Health and Well-being, fourth goal: Quality Education, and seventeenth goal: partnership for goals).

For the SDG 1: No Poverty; 591 universities from all over the world participated, and Kateb University is among the 101-200 most influential universities in the world in this category.

Through human resources training, providing scholarships and special discounts, setting up a branch of the university in one of the poorest and neediest areas of Kabul, providing direct and indirect job opportunities for hundreds of people in the country, supporting business and start-ups, Kateb University has been instrumental in reducing poverty and improving community development.

For the SDG 3: Health and Well-being, 871 universities in the world have participated, and Kateb University is among the 401-600 influential universities in the world in this category.

Titled the most prestigious university in Afghanistan, having a fully-equipped hospital with professional staff, standard educational facilities, medical research centers and publishing more than 50 medical articles in prestigious international journals (ISI), providing standard educational and medical services, upgrading community awareness and Training hundreds of medical doctors, Kateb University has played an effective role in achieving the third Sustainable Development Goal (SDG-3) in Afghanistan.

For the SDG 4: Quality Education, 966 universities in the world have participated, and Kateb University is listed among the 301-400 influential universities in the world in this category.

Kateb University, with the title of the most prestigious university in Afghanistan by the Department of Quality Assurance of the Ministry of Higher Education and having specialized human resources, modern educational facilities, the use of the latest technology, effective research activities, and publishing more than 70 scientific articles in prestigious journals (ISI), conducting remedial courses and teacher training in disadvantaged areas and training thousands of professionals in various fields, has played a leading role in achieving the Fourth Sustainable Development Goal (SDG-4).

For the SDG 17: Partnership for Goals, 1154 universities have participated, and Kateb University is among the top 601-800 influential universities in the world in this listing.

Kateb University, one of the most prestigious universities in Afghanistan, hosts the Afghanistan Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and has the leadership of this network; in cooperation with international institutions such as USAID, FHI360, George Mason University, Stradford University, British Columbia; also in collaboration with public and private sectors such as AREU, Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Commerce, Kabul University, Pol-e-Technik University, Marshall Fahim Defense University, hospitals, and various training centers, has played an effective role in achieving the 17th Sustainable Development Goal (SDG-17) in terms of partnership expansion and stressing on the need for collaboration and collective efforts.

Kateb University, being ranked as a national prestigious university, is among the 601-800 influential universities in the world, and the university owes this great achievement to the efforts of its incredible leadership board, faculty members and staffs.
