Workshop on “Working with Laboratory Animals (Rats)”

In this workshop, Dr. Mousavi, Head of Kateb Research Center, while welcoming the students, stated that we need to be able to teach medical concepts in a specialized and practical way by holding such workshops. Dr. Mousavi talked about the importance and necessity of using laboratory animals in medical research, ethical issues and human treatment of laboratory animals, some vital and behavioral characteristics of laboratory mice, duties of people who work with animals, location and conditions of keeping animals, Biology and sex identification of animals, animal mating, animal transport, animal restraint, various injection methods, blood sampling methods, euthanasia (easy death) of animals, and most recently laboratory animal surgery were discussed in detail.

Dr. Hossein Bayani Rad, Director of Research Centers, noted that in the current situation, it is a matter of pride that we are able to conduct the first workshop on the principles of working with laboratory animals (rats). Dr. Bayani pointed out that in addition to theoretical lessons, we need to work on laboratory animals in practice so that we can learn all the medical concepts in a professional way.
Then, Mr. Dawood Najafi, Director of the Student Development Center, pointed out that this center has extensive plans for the growth and dynamism of students. In order to have more useful and better programs, we continued to work on three animals that enables students to learn and work on the following points in practice.
– Familiarity with the animal environment
– Binding animals
– Determining the sex of animals
– Familiarity with animal mating
– Familiarity with various injection methods
– Familiarity with blood collection methods
– Surgery and familiarity with the internal organs of animals
At the end of the workshop, the participants were awarded a certificate.
