Awareness and Engagement

While we are only 10 years away to 2030, yet due to lack of institutional awareness on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), lack of platform for sharing experiences, best practices, and knowledge, and lack of community awareness on SDGs hinder the nation’s progress towards achieving SDGs. SDSN Afghanistan is committed to address these challenges. In order to maximize awareness across educational organizations, research institutes and civil society, SDSN Afghanistan iscommitted to publish a quarterly policy research journal to update the public on the SDG developments in the country.

In regard to lack of platform amongst sectors, we will provide guides for different sectors to support, direct, and align their actions with SDGs. For this purpose we will review and refine previously developed guides. SDSN Afghanistan as a core network for engaging sectors will create a platform for sectorial and cross-sectorial dialogues that will inform them on their roles and attract their commitment to contribute to Afghanistan’s SDGs. we will conduct Afghanistan’s SDGs Solutions Forum, a conference on the Role of Universities in Achieving the SDGs, and a regional forum annually with the aim of providing technical support through engagement – to explore best practices, lessons learnt, platforms for experience sharing and future actions. As a part of this action, we have held a conference of the “Role of Universities in Achieving the SDGs.

Addressing the next challenge of lack of community awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals, we will launch a nationwide media campaign targeted at Afghans of all walks of life. The content for the campaign will be taken from the SDG Metadata repertoire which will be translated into local languages. The campaign will cover all owned, paid and earned media as well as the community-based workshops and seminars. Such media campaigns will promote the general awareness of people on SDGs, promote a culture of sustainable lifestyle within communities, and encourage people to play their part in achieving A-SDGs. The proposed media campaigns will celebrate and use good cases to encourage other communities to adopt sustainable lifestyles such as some rural communities in Afghanistan have switched from fuel energy to solar energy for their electricity production.
